The Next Grading scale explained: 0.5 to 10, NG, COA and the NEXT label

Next Grading is a Spanish grading company based in Madrid. This is how its results work, so you know what to expect from the label on your slab.

The scale

  • 0.5 to 10: half-point grades, with 10 being Gem Mint.
  • NEXT label: a perfect 10 in every parameter.
  • NG: no grade.
  • COA: the item is authentic but is not given a grade.

How a card is graded

Corners, edges, centering and surface are scored separately. Centering is measured by machine, with a CMM and an optical scanner accurate to the micron, and graders tell a real damage from a print imperfection. Each card goes through a double or triple check by graders certified by level, and registered printing rosette patterns help detect counterfeits.

Medal Code

A colour code on the label shows at a glance whether the item is a 1st edition, first appearance, signed, limited or promotional.

The case

Reinforced acrylic, ultrasonic welding with no glue, double encapsulation, a laser-engraved ID and invisible UV marking, with tamper-evident seals.
