Gundam Card Game Freedom Ascension [GD05] Booster Box — Release Date, Link Rare & Why It Will Sell Out

The Gundam Card Game turns one year old, and Bandai is celebrating with its biggest booster set yet: Freedom Ascension [GD05], releasing July 24, 2026. This is the set where Strike Freedom Gundam and ν Gundam finally enter the game — and it debuts a brand-new rarity that collectors are already chasing.

Here's everything you need to know before it sells out.

What Is Freedom Ascension [GD05]?

Freedom Ascension is the fifth main booster set for the Gundam Card Game and the official 1st Anniversary set. Bandai has loaded it with fan-favourite mobile suits making their long-awaited debut:

• Strike Freedom Gundam — Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny
• ν Gundam — Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
• Shining Gundam — Mobile Fighter G Gundam
• Wing Gundam Zero EW — Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz

New Rarity: Link Rare Debuts in GD05

The headline feature of Freedom Ascension is the introduction of Link Rare — a completely new rarity showing linked Units and Pilots in special paired artwork. It's the first new rarity tier added to the game since launch, and first-print anniversary sets with debut rarities have historically been the strongest sealed products in any Bandai TCG.

On top of Link Rare, GD05 packs a record chase-card lineup:

• 5 types of LR++ cards — the highest rarity in the game, combining Pilots and Mobile Suits (a series record)
• 8 Pilot SP cards in special-edition versions
• SP Card EX Resources — debuting here with beautifully illustrated female-character artwork

What's Inside a GD05 Booster Box?

• Each pack: 12 cards
• Each booster box: 24 packs (288 cards total)
• Language: English — sealed, official Bandai product

Prefer to start smaller? Single GD05 booster packs (€6) are also available, and the companion Deck Build Box Freedom Ascension [SC01] (€55) is the fastest way to build a competitive Strike Freedom deck on day one.

Is Freedom Ascension Worth Buying Sealed?

Short answer: yes — this is the strongest sealed pick of the Gundam Card Game's first year. Three reasons:

• Anniversary + new rarity: first-anniversary sets that introduce a new rarity (Link Rare) traditionally hold value best — think OP-05 in One Piece.
• Debut suits with massive fanbases: Strike Freedom and ν Gundam are two of the most popular mobile suits ever made. Their first card appearances will be chased hard.
• Record LR++ count: five top-rarity cards in one set means more high-value targets per box than any previous GCG release.

Our allocation is limited to a handful of boxes, priced at €110 — below the typical European market price for anniversary-set allocations.
